Production: Filming

Image
During Spring Break, we went back to filming. We re-filmed scenes three, six, eight, and ten. For scene three my partner thought the audio was too mumbled so when we ran the tape he emphasized that he couldn't hear the voices of the actors too well. As a result, we re-filmed and tried to get the microphone closer to pick up the character voices much clearer than what we had beforehand, however it was a little windy which created a "whooshing" sound so it was a little unfortunate. Moreover, for scene six, I believed we had to refill because the acting didn't seem natural and forced and would throw off the mood of the project. This caused us to re-film it until we thought it was satisfactory although it wasn't completely excellent. Scene eight was when my partner had to slam the door shut. This scene was a bit difficult to film because it wasn't an ideal door. The lock on the door was jammed so it wouldn't stay completely shut also it wouldn't create the...

Production Blog: Filming final scenes

Image
After we finished filming the scene where Cleveland would be talking to Mj about the practice and the big game the next day, the main character gets a call from his boss from work.  Here, the boss asks him can he come in and tries to emphasize tries that he's a little busy. Before he could finish speaking he is cut off and begged to come in. As he wants to please everyone to the best of his ability he finally gives in.  During these scenes, we get to see more of the character's attitude. As we have seen in the basketball scene and in this scene the main character has a very hard time saying "no" or speaking up for himself. Even though it may affect him and some ways. As the basketball may inflict how good his work will come out for class. Also, how going to work may inflict how long he can practice. All of these activities will eventually catch up to him and begin to wear him down.  There were a few problems when we were working on the scene. One of the problems was...

Filming First Scenes

Image
We began filming the first few scenes of the film yesterday. These first few scenes are one of the most important because they give the audience a good idea of how the main character acts and the type of person they are, a somewhat responsible and scheduled person. These initial scenes also revolve around the start of the day for the main character which begins with an alarm that goes off transitioning into online virtual school. One key thing is these scenes is the fact that in order the film the virtual school meeting, we needed to create a zoom call with another person on the other side, being me. We also had to get the lighting right as well, as the alarm would've read 7:30 am, which implies it is still light outside but not as bright as it would be during midday. One thing that might have been a challenge would be adequately capturing angles. Since we aren't using top tier camera equipment and we are limited to a room, it was a little difficult for the phone to stand on it...

Production Blog: Filming Scenes & Story

Image
As we began filming and recording our next scene which involved the main character, Cleveland going to basketball practice where he learns he is reminded of his upcoming rival game. This would serve as a transition from the school work mentioned earlier that would also have to be done that same very night. Additionally, to allow for a smooth transition, the character Mj is introduced as well. Mj is shown as the laid back type of student which can be seen by his diction and his strong urge for Cleveland to avoid doing his project and instead come to the game. Moreover, he is shown as a friend of the main character who participates on the school basketball team.  They continue to walk and talk until the main character comes to the realization that he has to choose between school or his favorite sport. Additionally, as Mj tries to convince his friend to come to the game, the audience can see what type of person Mj is as well as the peer pressure Cleveland is put against, creating dram...

Rescheduling and Set-up

Image
My partner and I did not film up until this date mainly because, up to this point, we had SAT's to study for and we came to an agreement it would be best to film on Sunday 3/7/21 instead. We plan on filming to first few scenes where it takes place in Cleveland's, the main character in our film, room. These first few scenes consists of him waking up and getting ready for school. Additionally, he is also about to enter his zoom call class which is another detrimental plot to the film. Our location is prepared to be Cleveland's house and we are planning to bring one extra actor to help film. Moreover, one important detail in this filing session will be to have Cleveland's room spot clean to help emphasize a point later on in the film. Props will likely include a phone, computer, and an alarm while the attire being something casual that could be worn to sleep. We also plan to use some kind of Non-Copyrighted royalty music for non-diegetic sound of the title sequence and the...

Planning: Sound and Shooting Script

Sound Script   Scene 1:  Alarm goes off No Dialogue  Scene 2:  No Dialogue Scene 3: Teacher: “ Can anyone tell me why the Farmers had conflicts with the railroads?” No Dialogue  Clelveland: *sighs* “Because the railroads, AKA the means of transporting the goods the farmers grew, were charging farmers more money to transport crops than it originally should be. This eventually led to the granger movement, a series of protests that fought against the rail monopolies of the midwest.” Teacher: “Thank you AGAIN Cleveland for always answering the questions, you’ve won 5 points for participation.”  Scene 4 Teacher: “Alright class that sounds like the bell, and don't forget your Industrial Revolution project is due tonight and for those who don't remember. Oh and don't forget, this is worth 100 points so unless you want to fail my class, I suggest you get started!”  Cleveland: Heh, no biggie Scene 5 Mj: Yo, you ready for practice? Heard Coach Patrick is havin’ ...

Planning: Story Board

Image
Within this storyboard, we've created about 18 slides of the basic outline of our project that shows the character and them interacting with the setting and other characters. Slide 1: Here is presented a mid shot, specifically to present the alarm in the scene changing from 7:34 to 7:35. Additionally this will have a fade in transition. Slide 2: A high angle will be shown next. This will reveal the entirety of the room, which will introduce our main character. Slide 3: A mid shot close up on the character's bag will be shown next that has the character's bed in frame as well. Slide 4: Here, the same general concept of slide 3 remains, however, the character is now reaching into their bag to pull out a laptop.' Side 5: The mid angle shot here is used to show the main character using the previous laptop as he logs into online school. Slide 6: The character is now interacting with the teacher and is represented by a medium close-up Slide 7: A POV shot is how here, to see w...
