Editing Blog
My Process
Saying editing was long and difficult would be an understatement. Although it was it was only a 30 second commercial, it took hours upon hours of constant trimming, splitting, adding audio, rearranging clips, adding transitions, and finding music that would fit the idea of my commercial. I begin by dumping all of my clips, recordings, and song choices into iMovie, a video editing app. Additionally, to fully capture the idea the Xbox, I had to incorporate some gameplay to give the viewer a genuine fun experience which I had to upload. I uploaded all the takes from the shots I took when filming and I had about 15 different takes for each scene all which had a small error of some kind. It was up to me to identify the error, trim or cut it out, and then figure out which part could be considered usable. One thing that was extremely crucial was the time limit. I had so many clips to use and such as small amount time to work with. Not only did I have to trim the clips to allow them to work in sequence and make sense, but they had to fit in the time limit which took some time and caused me to sadly delete some scenes. Next, I had to separately record sounds for different things in the film that wouldn't be audible. For example, when I threw my book bag onto the couch or when I turned on the product on. One very important step was to include music, for this I chose Big Sean's "Why would I stop", because of its upbeat rhythm and theme, to never stop when you're progressing. If I were an audience, I would definitely feel motivated to either buy or at least try a the xbox as a product. It feels like I tried my very best and there isn't much to improve on, but I know when I look back at this from the future I'd recognize the flaws in my work.
